This specification ASME SA516 covers carbon steel plates intended primarily for use in welded pressure vessels where improved notch toughness is important. ASME SA516 allows for four different strength levels. The most common is Grade 70.

This grade ASME SA516 must be killed and made to a fine grain practice. Plates over 1-1/2” thick must be normalized. Additionally, when impact (notch toughness) tests are required on plates up to 1-1/2” thick, the plates must be normalized.

ASME SA516 GR60, when the steel plates thickness is not more than 12.5mm, the Mn composition heat analyse can be 0.85% ~ 1.20%, the product analyse can be 0.79% ~ 1.30% .
