A542 have five grades or levels. They are : grade A, grade B, grade C, grade D, Grade E.A542 Grade B need to be done the (Quenching + Tempering ) heat-treatment to meet the property requirement in the standard ASTM A-542/A-542M.

① In A 542/A 542M-82 standard and the earlier standard, the steel plates whosethickness ≤ 125mm, C must be ≤ 0.15%
